#4 World Bank & Yatra

Pictures from a demonstration outside the World Bank in New Delhi and from the Adivasi Sampark Yatra.

The World Bank protest, though small, brought Adivasi representatives from areas affected by World Bank funded projects throughout India.

Yatra means a pilgrimage. This particular pilgrimage took Adivasi and Dalit (meaning oppressed, a name that the untouchables choose to call themselves) activists around mining areas in Orissa and Bihar. The idea was to gather information, educate and to try to join small isolated campaigns together gaining national recognition as mining minerals & People (mm&P), a newly formed umbrella group.
